Focused on the Future

So here we are… I can’t believe our adventure is over already and that I’m writing my final post on Hello Holland. I’d like to say a BIG thank you to everyone who has followed along this year and for all the “likes”; I’ve loved checking in and getting a little surprise once and a while! Much appreciated. We’ve decided to move back to Canada, to be closer to our families. However, I’ve started a new blog to try and make the most of this new step  { Hello Homeland } I want to look at my native country with fresh eyes and take in all the special little things that make it home. We’ve had an amazing year, I’m hoping this new one will be just as great! Bye Bye Europe and thank you for everything :)

Pierogies & Polka

Yup you guess it ~ just arrived from Poland! It was a great trip, our final stop in Europe before we headed back home. We went to a few different cities, the capital Warsaw with an amazing old town where I had one of my favorite meals ever. Followed by Jelenia Gora with its beautiful mountains, we were even lucky enough to do a quick day trip to Sniezka, a mountain that borders Czech Republic and Poland. We took a lift on the Czech side and walked down the Polish side! Very cool. Then we traveled to the very historic Gdansk where we stayed in the home of THE Copernicus (now turned hotel/museum). Gdansk is a city of artist, so many markets and handmade good for sale at every corner, I loved it. Last but not least was Krakow! It had a huge market square, that was very lively, buskers, concerts, always something going on. Poland overall is a pretty country. The architecture was vibrant with colors and patterns everywhere. The food was wholesome and flavorful. Everything we saw was interesting not to mention affordable, Poland has plenty to offer, a definitely must see!

Travels to Turkey

Wow I don’t even know where to begin to describe our trip to Istanbul… It was very interesting, I’ve never been in an environment so different from my own. Europe is pretty similar in many ways to Canada, so I had a great time discovering something completely new. The food for one was great! so flavorful and the baklava..oh the yummy combination of honey nuts and pastry…amazing! We did the usual touristy things, walked around and tried to take it all in. The mosques were quite impressive, the amount of detail is unbelievably gorgeous. The Grand Bazaar was overwhelming to say the least, I’ve never had so many strangers talk to me at once and push product in my face, you have to love to bargain and well.. that’s not really my thing. But it was a great space, not what I was expecting, I thought it was going to be more open air, but it was more like a mall with tiny stalls. Oh! and the cats!! They were everywhere, it was crazy, every time I turned around there was a set of little eyes staring right back at me! Next we spent a day on the Princes’ Islands, really nice and relaxing and definitely needed. The island we were on, Heybeliyada had no cars, the only way to travel was by foot, bike or horse carriage. So that’s what we did we hopped on a horse carriage with no idea where the driver was taking us! We eventually landed on the other side of the island and spent the afternoon by the Marmara sea. The only thing we didn’t get a chance to do was a Bosphorus tour, I would have loved to see both europe and asia in one glance, oh well maybe next time. It was a fantastic few days, I took so many photos it was hard to choose a few, but here you go!
